Award Photographer of the Year 2018 was awarded to Rachel for her Talibard the called “Nyx”(NYX, she is NYX, the ancient goddess of night). A monochrome image striking combination of detailed, clear waves and the blurred veil of spray, from which would be born of supernatural creature. Is the last and most famous series of works, Talbert called “Sirens”(Sirens).

As a professional photographer, Rachel Talbert took place not immediately. In 2000 she left a boring job as a lawyer to pursue photography, to 2008 completely switched to digital photography. Work on the series “Sirens” began in 2016, with the Newhaven beach in East Sussex. Talbert literally hunting for storms – the usual bad weather does not allow elements to roam enough to produce a masterpiece.

It’s all in the speed, wind and waves, as well as the capabilities of equipment of the photographer. Talbert uses a telescopic lens and an ultrafast shutter with a response speed in the 1/1000 of a second. If the weather favors, she manages to catch the moment when the wind accelerates the water and splashes to the level of traffic, the usual elusive look. And at this moment creates a unique picture that has a chance to get on the list Sony World Photography Awards.

“Sometimes the waves of the sea more beautiful than scary, but more often exactly the opposite,” says the photographer. It does not control the process, always feels miserable to witness a great movement and display of power of the wild, untamed sea. A love of mythology and ancient cultures helps to give the photos of this process meaningful and to give their personal traits.
