Minister of community development and territories Chernyshev met with the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine

KIEV. July 29. UNN. Minister of community development and of the territories of Ukraine Alexey Tchernyshev with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine Larisa Glazou discussed the issues of decentralization and local elections in Ukraine, priorities of regional policy in Ukraine for the period 2021-2027 years and the introduction of gender equality in the activities of the Ministry of regional development. So, the Minister thanked Canada for its continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, for the continued implementation and expansion of sanctions against Russia in connection with the annexation of Crimea and the escalation in the East of Ukraine, fruitful cooperation, technical assistance to support priority reforms of decentralization and regional development, and the introduction of gender equality.

The head of the Ministry noted that Ukraine is now in a very difficult and important phase of local government reform.

“Thanks to the efforts of the government, Parliament, Office of the President with the participation of associations of local authorities and experts, international technical support managed to make important legislative acts, administrative centers are defined and approved territory 1470 territorial communities created new 136 districts in the regions and the Crimea”, – said Chernyshov.

The Minister noted that “the government has charted quite an ambitious task that must be performed in a short time. Their implementation requires approval in the near-term State strategy of regional development for the period up to 2027, viewing and updating regional development strategies in all fields. The introduction of modern approaches in the competitive selection of projects under the sectoral programmes on the principles of transparency and alignment with the strategic priorities.”

“When discussing the issue of implementation of gender equality in activities of the regional development Ministry, Alexei Chernyshev stressed the importance of implementing gender equality in Ukraine and to continue cooperation with the canadian side”, – stated in the message.

It is reported that the Ministry of regional development one of the first was developed and approved the “Code of equal opportunities”. Also thanks to the cooperation with project of UN Women in Ukraine was introduced a gender-legal expertise of drafts of normative legal acts implemented the project “School of normoproteic” for Ministry staff, developed and approved the “Strategy for gender equality of the Ministry of regional development to 2019-2021 years.”

“Decentralization will change Ukraine. A program of regional economic development is able to discover its great potential. For Canada we know that the effective involvement of citizens in the development and implementation of such reforms is key. The approach is based on grajdaninom and validity, involves the analysis of the needs of different groups of people that these reforms will affect. This means a joint search for creative solutions based on experience and best practices. The only reforms that are of investment – reforms that are imposed on such principles,” said Galadza.

Recall that Canada supports the reform of the SBU and is ready to provide necessary assistance.
