In Kiev police accused of extortion: the case is already in court

The Kyiv Prosecutor’s office sent to court indictment against officer of one of the district offices of the Metropolitan police and two former law enforcement officers. According to investigators, the defendants organized the scheme of extortion of money by not bringing citizens to criminal responsibility, the press service of the Kiev Prosecutor’s office.

“As stated pre-trial investigation, the militiaman and its accomplices, having received operational information about persons who use or distribute drugs and psychotropic substances, has set a tail on them. In the future, not having any legal grounds, held the detention of these citizens, and their apartments are illegal searches,” the statement reads.

In the future, the accused made threats to the relatives of the detainees to pay them money for not involvement of the last to criminal liability.

In General, the specified unlawful scheme during April-June 2016 police and his associates through extortion received over 330 thousand UAH, noted in the Prosecutor’s office.

Actions accused are qualified under part 2 St. 189 (extortion with the threat of restriction of the rights of the victim, committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons who caused significant harm to the victim, committed by an official using his official position) and h 1,2 article 162 (unlawful entry into a dwelling, unlawful carrying out it in a search) of the criminal code of Ukraine.

For their actions the defendants could face up to seven years in prison.

6 March 2017 it was reportedthat in Donetsk region for receiving a bribe in the amount of 80 thousand UAH were detained two police officers.
