Today, August 20, Tusk responded to treatment and to the protection of the item of the current agreement the output of the United Kingdom from the EU – the so-called Brexit – about maintaining free trade between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The head of the European Council, in particular, pointed to the fact that the position of the so-called “exit strategy” backstop, which Johnson proposed to strike, is to ensure that the island will not have a hard cordon.
“Those who reject the backstop, not offering any real alternatives, support the construction of the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland – the UNIAN). Even if they don’t admit it,” – said Tusk.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Boris Johnson believes that the UK can refuse the terms on which Northern Ireland will remain part of the single market and the customs Union of the EU during the transition period Brexit.
