“The US special envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, set off on July 24 in Doha, Islamabad, Kabul, Oslo and Sofia”, — said the Agency. “In Doha and Kabul, Khalilzad will be to achieve resolution of the remaining issues in anticipation of an intra-Afghan negotiations, including the final exchange of prisoners and the reduction in the level of violence”, — stressed the state Department.

Background: on 29 February in Doha, the U.S. and the Taliban signed a peace agreement. According to the agreement, the United States, its allies and the coalition intend to withdraw within 14 months all troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban in turn guarantee not to use the territory of Afghanistan for actions that pose a threat to US security and its allies. To start an intra-Afghan negotiations on a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire as a confidence-building must be vacated by 5 thousand supporters of the movement and up to 1 thousand people held by the Taliban.
