The national team of Ukraine on football could face technical defeat in the matches against Portugal and Luxembourg due to a new player Junior Moraes.

The Brazilian may not meet the FIFA requirements for naturalized athletes, suggests a Portuguese newspaper Mais Futebol, referring to the fact that the player has not lived continuously in Ukraine for 5 years, according to the SportArena.

The publication contacted a Portuguese judge CAS Nogeyra Yes Roshi, who confirmed that in this case should apply Article 7 of the FIFA statutes “a new citizenship”.

The relevant article reads as follows:

Any player who receives a new nationality and who has not played for the national team, has the opportunity to play for a new team only if either of the following conditions:

a) He was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

d) He has lived continuously for at least five years after reaching 18 years of age at the territory of the relevant Association.

In November 2016 FIFA punished Bolivia two technical defeats in the matches against Peru (2-0) and Chile (0:0) due to improper naturalization defender Nelson Cabrera.

Moraes was in the Donetsk metallurg in 2011, then spent a season at CSKA Sofia. From July 2012 to February 2017, he played in Ukraine for metallurg and Dynamo, and then went to rent a Chinese Tianjin Coinstar. From the summer of 2017 Junior again played in Ukraine.

The Brazilian received Ukrainian citizenship on March 18, was called to the national team on 19 March and 22 March, came on as a substitute in the match against Portugal (0:0), and March 25, first played the national team against Luxembourg (2:1).

The Ukrainian national team after 2 rounds with 4 points leads the group B. Next match, the team of Andriy Shevchenko, will take place on the 7th June against Serbia, on June 10, will meet again with Luxembourg.
