The explosion in Lebanon: authorities at Beirut allow for the increase in losses to $ 15 billion

KIEV. 5 Aug. UNN. The damage from the explosion that occurred in the port of Beirut on the evening of 4 August, could grow to $ 15 billion. This was stated by the Governor of the Lebanese capital, Marwan Abboud, TV channel Al Hadath, writes UNN.

Earlier on August 5, he assessed the damage from 3 billion to 5 billion. As told Abboud in an interview, the explosion partially or completely destroyed almost half of the city.

According to him, without help from outside Beirut may face a food crisis. Now the Lebanese authorities are waiting for the report of the Commission on establishment of all circumstances that led to the explosion.

A powerful explosion in the port of Beirut occurred on the evening of 4 August. It was preceded by a fire. The blast destroyed or damaged buildings, vehicles and infrastructure within a radius of several kilometers from the epicenter. Suffered half of the administrative buildings of Beirut, among them the Armenian, Cypriot and Russian Embassy.

According to the latest data, the victims of the explosion were 137 people, about 5 thousand injured. Among the dead — ten members of the fire brigade who extinguished the fire in the port at the time of the explosion. About 300 thousand people were left homeless.

The consequences of the explosion in Beirut:
