The EU gave a green light to sanctions against Belarus

KIEV. 14 Aug. UNN. The foreign Ministers of the EU agreed to sanctions after the brutal suppression of protests in Belarus. This was reported by the Brussels correspondent of “Radio Liberty” Rikard Jozwiak in his Twitter, reports UNN.

“The foreign Ministers of the EU member States agreed to give the green light to sanctions against Belarus. The working groups will make lists”, – the journalist wrote.

On approval of the sanctions reported by Reuters with reference to Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz.

According to him, most of the foreign Ministers of the EU are in favour of introducing sanctions against individuals responsible for organizing the presidential elections in Belarus and for the use of force against protesters.

“We believe that restrictions on the country, these officials may not harm the society,” – said Czaputowicz at a press conference, while the Ministers of foreign Affairs of the EU continued negotiations.

Earlier, the Council of the European Union said it is watching events in Belarus and condemns the government’s actions against the people who came to protest. I urge the Belarusian authorities to release all detainees.

As reported UNN, the US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo in an interview during a visit to Prague earlier said that the United States may impose sanctions against Belarus because of the presidential election and the new unrest in the country.
