As reported TASS, the corresponding statement the Minister made before his departure to Russia.

“Where there is a need for clarification, it is best to speak openly. So today, for the first time since the start of the pandemic in the early stages, I’m going to Russia,” he said.

It is noted that during his one-day visit Maas will visit Moscow and St. Petersburg.

“German-Russian relations are too important to let them take their course”, — he stressed.

The head of the German foreign Ministry also added that without the participation of Russia is impossible to settle conflicts in Ukraine, Libya and Syria.

Earlier it was reported that the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas will hold a meeting on August 11.

In July, the Maas explained why “Europe needs Russia”.
