The U.S. government does not believe the statements of Tehran that died in Iraq the commander of special forces “Quds” Islamic revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani was in Iraq on a diplomatic mission. This was stated by January 7, U.S. Secretary of state Michael Pompeo.
Earlier, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Iran Javad Zarif said that Soleimani, arrived in Baghdad for meetings with Prime Minister of Iraq to mitigate the tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

We know that’s not true,” said Pompeo (quoted by TASS). He also said that Zarif, a propagandist of the first order.
Pompeo added that any steps by the United States against Iran will comply with international law. “With regard to cultural objects of all of the goals that we considered and all our actions will always be in the framework of the international law of armed conflict”, – he said, commenting on the words of US President Donald trump, who declared readiness to strike Iran’s 52 objects, including objects important to the Iranian culture, if the Iranian authorities will respond to the murder of Soleimani.
On the death of General Qasem Soleimani and Deputy commander of the Shiite militia of Iraq, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis became known on January 3. According to Bloomberg, the US has not notified about the impending attack on Soleimani neither foreign governments nor the Congress, and the Ministry of homeland security was informed about the attack on Sulejmani after the fact.
Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promised that the murder Soleimani will not remain without revenge. “For the murder of a martyred General Kassem Suleimani will be followed by strategic revenge, which definitely put an end to the American presence in the region,” – said in an interview with Iranian state television, the commander of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC) major General Hossein salami.
On 7 January, the Iranian Parliament voted for the recognition of the armed forces of the United States as a terrorist organization. According to the text of the law, the terrorists are “all members of the Pentagon and its associated companies, and companies and officers involved in the death of Qasem Soleimani”. The document also obliges the Iranian government to take decisive action against terrorist acts by the armed forces of the United States that threaten the interests of the country.
