Erdogan on the decree to transfer the Hagia Sophia into a mosque: the views of other countries will not change our decision

KIEV. July 11. UNN. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that the views of other States will not change Ankara’s decision about changing the status of Hagia Sophia from Museum to mosque, writes UNN with reference to the Turkish state Anadolu news Agency.

“Turkey took the decision to change the status of Hagia Sophia from Museum to mosque, based on the desire and the will of the people. The opinion of other countries could not affect our decision”, — quotes the words of the Turkish leader, Anadolu.

On Friday, the Turkish Council of State cancelled the decree of the government of 1934 to give the Hagia Sophia and the status of the Museum. Then Erdogan signed a decree according to which in Ayia Sofia will resume Muslim worship.

Note that a particularly negative impact this decision had on complicated Turkey’s relations with Greece.
