Popular journalist Pavel Kazarin expressed his point of view on Ukraine’s decision to refuse participation in “Eurovision – 2019,” assessing the blunders of the national selection and the principles of voting of the audience.

In Ukraine, politics is becoming, even that policy was originally not supposed to be. However, it is not surprising. We are a country burned by the war, writes Krym.Realities. It makes no sense to be surprised. For their own pre-war illusion the country has paid dearly enough and now meticulously looks at every one who wants to speak on her behalf. Their problem is that they did not understand: to be a star means to have the support and love of the audience. It makes no sense to blame us that we are “overly politicized.” In the end, politics is a conversation about the future. What you consider the norm and the deviation. By the way, about the song contest. The organizers like to emphasize its apolitical. It’s possible the way it is – but not for our country. For one simple reason: for a significant portion of Ukraine’s key in its name – not “song” and “European”.

It is not surprising that we with dedication neophytes see it as something more than just a musical contest. Eurovision for us is a way to confirm choice. For “old Europe” there is no reason to take this contest the same way. In the end, the UK, France and Germany, there are no reflections on the topic of whether or not they are Europe. And we continue to doubt. We still are not sure that crossed a geopolitical Rubicon. And so our sharp spears that we break the rhetorical battles on “who is worthy of us to imagine.”

It’s probably growing pains. Perhaps it’s childhood diseases. Those that need to recover now, and not arrogant to snout on the topic “but Europe is a third-rate event.” Europe and Europe, not to doubt who she is. But we continue to doubt is natural. Fear of revenge. Fear of defeat and collapse. And because every year the competition becomes for us in the value of Derby. In the same way in which the same Derby for us be any elections.

But Europe is not only to sing for Europe. To be Europe is not only to the voices of her audience. To be Europe is, first and foremost, compliance with procedures. Maybe it’s good that now we have a whole year to develop new rules of the game.
