KIEV. August 23. UNN. Flag day is celebrated annually in Ukraine on August 23, reports UNN.
Previously this day was celebrated only in Kiev at the municipal level. The capital is celebrated on July 24. On this day in 1990, blue-and-yellow flag was hoisted over the Kyiv city hall. Since 2009, the official flag-raising ceremony is celebrated on August 23 in all Ukraine.
The history of the current blue-yellow flag is very ancient. Since the time of the baptism of Rus, these colors are always present on the flags of the Ukrainian state of different ages.
The blue color on the flag of Ukraine is a peaceful sky and yellow – wheat fields.
Additionally, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will take part in the celebrations of the Day of State flag of Ukraine in the Dnieper.
In addition, on August 23 at 8:00 there will be the establishment of a national record for “The longest national flag of Ukraine”. The flag will reach 2700 meters. Every 100 meters will symbolize the year of independence of Ukraine. The flag is deployed along the Avenue Bazhana from Larisa Rudenko to the Kharkiv area.
At 10:00 on Khreshchatyk street, 36 near the building of Kyiv city state administration held a solemn ceremony of raising the national flag of Ukraine.
And already at 14:00 scheduled participation of the President of Ukraine in the opening of the exhibition of modern weapons and military equipment of the armed forces and other military formations on Mikhaylovskaya square in the capital.
