Turkey is amassing tanks to the border with Syria
Uncategorized January 19, 2018The General staff of Turkey has led the armed forces on the border with Syria on high alert and tightens military equipment to the border zone. It is reported by the state Agency of Turkey Anadolu.
“Trucks with nine tanks arrived in the vicinity of Antakya from different parts of the Turkish armed forces. Armor is contracted to the boundary subject to enhanced security measures”, – notes the edition.
Military equipment being transferred to the region through the strengthening of Turkish troops on the border with Syria.
Earlier it was reportedthat in early January the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Turkish army will resume large-scale operation “shield of the Euphrates” in Northern region neighboring Syria, which is directed against “threatening Turkey,” local Kurds and the alleged terrorist organization the Islamic state.
The operation “Shield of the Euphrates” was launched in the province of Aleppo on 20 August 2016, with the support of the opposition to dictator Bashar al-Assad of the Free Syrian army. The Turkish President said that the operation allegedly directed only against the jihadists of ISIS fighters and Kurdish paramilitary groups, which Ankara considers a terrorist. Turkey’s objective was to drive out the Kurds to the East Bank of the Euphrates.
