KIEV. May 24. UNN. The UN special Rapporteur on torture will arrive in Ukraine on 28 may to assess the situation and processes associated with the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment in the country, reports UNN , citing the press center of the UN.

According to the press center, the UN special Rapporteur Nils Melzer will visit Ukraine from 28 may to 8 June at the invitation of the government.

During the visit he plans to meet with authorities and human rights institutions, as well as with members of the public, victims of torture and their families. He also plans to visit places of detention in police stations, pre-trial institutions and prisons.

In particular, Meltzer will visit cities in the Donbass, under the control of armed groups.

Their report he will present to the UN Council on human rights in March 2019.
