In the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will have to replace the President as the acting President, socialist Michele Nicoletti – lost in the parliamentary elections in Italy. It is reported Giudicarie.

Nicoletti took second place in the elections to the lower house of Parliament in the province of Trento c 29,57% of the vote. It beat a rival from the nationalist party “Northern League” Vanessa Catto typing 37,50% of the vote.

The current PACE President will lose the mandate as soon as Italy will inform Strasbourg on the new composition of the national delegation.

Nicoletti can still remain in office until the end of 2018, as the regulation PACE is not provided for the loss of the President of powers in the national Parliament. But next year, Nicoletti will not be able to hold this position.

22 January 2018, the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected the President of the Italian Deputy Michele Nicoletti. He was appointed to this position without a formal vote, since he was the only candidate. By agreement of the political groups, this year the position should be occupied by a representative of the group of socialist parties, and socialists put forward its only candidate.
