According to the newspaper, the candidacy of Sullivan must approve the upper house of the U.S. Congress, which previously claimed it on the post of Deputy head of the state Department.

John Sullivan assumed the position of Deputy Secretary of state on may 24, 2017. Legal career began in 1990. In 1992, he was Deputy General counsel of the election campaign of President George Bush. Then worked at the law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in Washington.

Under the presidency of George W. Bush was appointed by the then Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy General counsel of the American Ministry of defense.
