The drug dexamethasone is used in Russia for treating coronavirus infection, but it is not a panacea, said the chief pulmonologist of Ministry of health Sergey Avdeev.

“The drug is already widely used in Russia. But dexamethasone, alas, is not a panacea: in some cases it can help, and some do not” — said Avdeev in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He noted that the drug has an effect on any inflammation, including in the lungs, and used for several decades.
According to the pulmonologist, this tool really has anti-inflammatory effect in patients with COVID-19 with severe inflammation.
In the latest version of the methodological recommendations for the prevention and diagnosis of the disease includes the appointment of corticosteroids, including dexamethasone, in many Russian clinics it is already used, said the doctor.
