The European Union will change the rules of entry for Ukrainians

The European Parliament has adopted a bill describing the new system of control of entry into the territory of the European Union. The document refers to countries whose citizens do not require a visa to visit the EU, including Ukraine, Georgia, Canada, USA, UK and Australia.

In accordance with the law in 2021 in the EU the system will be running under the name of ETIAS (European system of authorization and information about the journey). It will create a single database of travellers crossing the borders of the Schengen area, whereas now each country to receive and store such information separately.

As writes the Ukrainian edition of “Browser”, after system startup, the citizens of Ukraine and other countries, which will affect the new rules no later than 96 hours prior to departure will need to complete the online application (application will cost citizens aged 18 to 70 years 7 euros). After verification, the applicant will receive approval to enter the Schengen area or a reasoned refusal. It is assumed that applicants with no criminal record or have not committed offences in the EU will receive permission in a matter of minutes. To operate such a permit will be for three years.

In Brussels stressed that 95% of applicants will receive positive response automatically, within a few minutes after application. Another 3-4% of applications are approved after checking by officers of the Central European body to control the system ETIAS. The term of such checks amount to a few hours. Finally, the most doubtful applications will undergo a more thorough examination: the applicant may request additional documents or an interview at the Consulate or through the Internet.

The reason for refusal of entry can be made before exceeding the period of stay on the territory of the EU or not paid a fine for the offense. While the applicants can appeal the decision to refuse. However, even in the event the application is approved the final decision on admission to the territory of the EU will make the border guards during passport control at the entrance.
