The statement noted that the European Parliament works as an Advisory Committee of MPs, which receives complaints on all forms of harassment in the workplace. So far, the Committee has received no formal complaints of sexual harassment.
The President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani said that “with shock and indignation that I learned about the recent complaints of sexual harassment in the European Parliament. But the shock may not be the answer.” He added that although a year ago steps were taken to raise awareness about the existence of the Committee of grievances, “it is necessary to further raise awareness about existing facilities.”
Tajani promised that the Presidium of the Parliament to discuss this issue.
