As reported the UNIAN, today, November 25, in the morning the Russian border guard ship rammed the tug naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine. The Navy noted that the intention to migrate in advance has been informed in accordance with international standards to ensure the safety of navigation. However, as noted by the Ukrainian side, in spite of the UN Convention on the law of the sea and the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in using the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait, the border of the Russian ship “don” rammed Ukrainian RAID tug, resulting in the damaged engine of the ship, the trim and railing, lost raft.

The Ukrainian Navy command said that in accordance with articles 17, 38 of the UN Convention on the law of the sea and article 2 of the Agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in using the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait, military ships of Ukraine enjoy freedom of navigation and therefore can make the passage across the Kerch Strait at any time, subject to safety of navigation.
