Sanctions against Russia are helping to save lives and to resist the violations of human rights – Ministry of foreign Affairs

KIEV. June 18. UNN. Sanctions against Russia are helping to protect some lives of the most vulnerable and to resist the violations of human rights by peaceful means. This was stated by the special representative of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine on sanctions policy Alexey Makeev during a video conference on the theme “Captured the Crimea: the path of de-occupation,” reports a correspondent.

“Sanctions continue to be an effective tool. They help to preserve and protect the lives of some of the most vulnerable people and to resist the violations of human rights in the occupied territories”, – said Makeev.

He stressed that Russia continues to violate human rights in the occupied territories, while the freedom of those who are in the occupied Crimea, continue to decline.

“We will continue to work with international partners to increase pressure on Russia and to raise the price of its hostile actions against Ukraine, EU, UK, Germany and the U.S. intervention in the elections, cybercrime, poisoning and killing people,” he said.

Makeev thanked the Council for the extension of sanctions against Russia in connection with the annexation of the Crimea until June 2021.

“Why sanctions are important because it is a unique diplomatic instrument for protection, which is peaceful, and thus able to control the actions of those on whom the sanctions are imposed”, – said the representative of the foreign Ministry.
