Russian Novaya Gazeta says about open threats to revision after the publication of information about mass arrests and torture of Chechen civilians suspected of sexual orientation.
In a statement, the editorial Board informs that in Grozny there was an emergency meeting of the Chechen widow, Islamic scholars and opinion leaders of Chechnya, which adopted the resolution.
It States: “Due to the fact that the insult to the age-old foundations of the Chechen society and the dignity of Chechen men, and our faith, we promise that retribution will overtake the true instigators, wherever and whoever they were, without a limitation period”.
Chief editor Dmitry Muratov said that the newspaper did not offend and had no intention to offend the Chechen people.
New newspaper called on the Russian authorities to do everything possible to stop the actions aimed at the incitement of hatred and hostility towards journalists.
