Permanent representative to NATO, Kay Bailey Hutchison
KIEV. April 3. UNN. The North Atlantic Treaty organization (NATO) plans to take measures to ensure the safe passage of vessels of Ukraine through the Kerch Strait, and also to expand the scale of aerial reconnaissance in the Black sea region. This was stated on Tuesday at a briefing for foreign journalists in Washington permanent representative to NATO, Kay Bailey Hutchison, reports UNN.
She confirmed that the foreign Ministers of NATO is expected to approve the package of measures at a two-day meeting which starts on Wednesday in the US capital.
“We are talking about a package (of measures), which strengthens reconnaissance, aerial reconnaissance, and involves sending a greater number of NATO ships in the Black sea to ensure safe passage of Ukrainian courts across the Kerch Strait, the Azov sea,” said Hutchison. From her point of view developed by NATO steps “extremely important” for countries that are neighbours of Russia in the black sea region.
According to the representatives of the USA at this stage requires “more attention to ensure that the water liberated” to the countries of the region “free from Russian interference.” “Russia is placing defensive weapons in Crimea, and Crimea is part of Ukraine,” said Hutchison.
She also added that the US and countries — NATO members should have the opportunity to confront Russia in the Black sea.
“It is unacceptable that the Ukrainian sailors held in prison in Moscow. We must ensure that we have the ability to deter aggression of Russia”, — she told.
Remember, NATO recognized Ukraine’s aspiration to become a member of the Alliance, but point to the need for reforms.
