The Israeli Parliament at the next plenary meeting unanimously adopted in the final reading the law on may 9, according to which henceforth the Victory Day in world war II will be officially celebrated in the country on may 9 at the state level and it will make the registry public holidays, reports NEWSru Israel.

With such legislative initiative made earlier by the Deputy from the party “Israel Our home” Oded Forer. The press service of the party said that despite the artificially created obstacles to the promotion of the bill by the representatives of some parties, it was adopted in an unprecedented short time – four months.

“Today is a very important day for me. Now we can be sure that the memory of the victory over Nazism and the heroism of Jews who fought on the fronts of the Second world war will not be lost ever. For veterans, including those living in Israel, this date – may 9 – has a symbolic meaning. It is our moral duty to give them honor for saving humanity from Nazism and to perpetuate the memory of the great victory, which for Jews and Israel is of particular importance,” said Forer.

The Minister of education of Israel and the leader of the influential party “Jewish home” Naftali Bennett, in turn, called the day of adoption of the law of 26 July, “another Day of Victory” in his country, reports RIA “Novosti”.

Among the main provisions of the bill: the allocation of time schedules in schools and army units on the study of the theme of victory over fascism, the allocation of funds to local authorities to work to perpetuate the memory of Victory.

Now, according to the law, 9 may, Israel will mark the inaugural session of the Knesset, the state ceremony through local governments and a March in Jerusalem.

As noted, the Victory Day Israelis celebrate the much broader “mandatory minimum”, which is spelled out in the document, but for the first time this tradition was enshrined in a separate law.

The celebration of Victory Day on may 9, consistent with the traditions of the former USSR and is different from the practice in Western countries, where the defeat of Nazi Germany is celebrated on 8 may. In schools religious sector in Israel, while it is allowed by the decision of the Ministry of education carry out celebrations on the Jewish calendar – the 26th day of the month of Iyar.

This year 26 th day of the Jewish month of Iyar fell on may 22. On this occasion, in Moscow, representatives of the Jewish community laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander garden, and in the Moscow choral synagogue on the eve of the holiday, the evening of may 21, hundreds of parishioners gathered in the main prayer in praise of soldiers who defeated Nazism.

In Russia the Day of Salvation and Liberation (an international holiday that is celebrated on the Jewish calendar in honor of the victory over fascism) entered in the register of Jewish holidays and commemorative days: in 2015 Russian President Vladimir Putin Jewish communities sends a congratulatory message to this date.

The idea to celebrate the may 9 Victory Day according to the Jewish chronology appeared in 2013, and to celebrate it began in 2015 – the 70th anniversary of the Victory. Date of holiday was chosen 26 Iyar: in 1945, this day coincided with may 9, when was signed the capitulation of the Third Reich.

The Declaration of significance 26 Iyar took the Conference of European rabbis, the largest Jewish religious organization in Europe. There was also made the order of prayers, which are usually read in a Day of Salvation and deliverance: it is a memorial prayer for the souls of the dead and prayers of gratitude for salvation.
