More than 1,100 soldiers March 1-8 will participate in international exercises 19 Poseidon, which the Navy of Romania will organize in the Romanian territorial waters and in international waters in the Western Black sea.

The exercise will use a 10 Romanian ships, four ships from the compounds of the second permanent naval mine group NATO (SNMCMG2), as well as two go-fast boats to divers. The second permanent mine countermeasures group, NATO is headed by the commander of the German naval forces Martin Schwartz on the flagship military transport ship FGS Werra. The group also includes the Turkish minesweeper to search for mines TCG Akcakoca, Romanian ship ROS Lt Lupu Dinescu and Bulgarian BGS Tsibar.

The air part of the exercise will be provided by Puma Naval helicopter, two fighter jets MiG-21 and two F-16 from the structure of the Romanian air force.

The opening ceremony of the exercises will be held at noon March 1 in port of Constanta. The court will leave the port on 4 March.

“The main purpose of the exercise is to strengthen cooperation between involved ships and crews in the overall international context and capabilities of the Navy Romania, which will be made available to NATO in the future”, – stated in the message.

“The illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula by the Russian Federation in 2014, the frozen conflicts in Transnistria and Georgia, the tense situation in the East of Ukraine and in the region of the Azov sea are factors that create instability in the Eastern neighborhood of the European Union and NATO. One of the security measures for the allies in the black sea region is the strengthening of naval presence in the sea basin,” added the Navy of Romania.

Patrols Maritime groups of the NATO grew in 2018 from two to three for each group for a maximum period of stay of the Black sea for 120 days during the year. In 2017 there were only two patrols for each group for 80 days presence of the Alliance in the Black sea.
