In RRG are investigating around 400 criminal proceedings for acts of torture

KIEV. March 12. UNN. About 4 thousand of criminal proceedings, among them 400 cases of torture and ill-treatment are investigated by the investigators of the State Bureau of investigation. This was announced by first Deputy Director of the State Bureau of investigation Olga Varchenko during a speech in Strasbourg, reports UNN.

The Ministry of justice of Ukraine reports to the RRT’s case files that were reviewed and viagrande in the European court of human rights. Further, the RRT investigators conduct pre-trial investigation in respect of persons, as a result of acts or omissions which the European court decided against Ukraine.

“Currently, the State Bureau of investigation received more than 100 such requests, which are initiated pre-trial investigation. However, it is equally important to work peridinia. The state Bureau of investigation is taking steps to ensure the timely and effective investigation of facts of torture or ill-treatment before they become the subject of consideration by the European court of human rights. We are investigating about 4,000 criminal proceedings, among them 400 cases of torture and ill-treatment,” – said Varchenko.

RRG is also collaborating with other government agencies to reduce the level of secrecy of such crimes.

“We developed the draft instruction on the order of interaction for the identification, suppression, disclosure and investigation of facts of torture. It defines the mechanism of interaction between the State Bureau of investigation and other state and law enforcement agencies for the immediate and timely reporting of GBR about such facts”, – said Olga Varchenko.

RRG develops methods of effective investigation of torture or ill-treatment, which will be mandatory for use in the investigation.

“We appreciate the assistance of the Council of Europe in the process of establishment of the State Bureau of investigation and the execution of tasks on combating crimes connected with torture, and will continue to work closely with the design activities of the Council of Europe,” said Mr. Varchenko.

We will remind, in the State Bureau of investigation is in production 28 criminal proceedings on the facts of possible offenses committed by employees of the NABU.
