In Kharkov, more expensive public transport

The price increase will happen because of rising energy prices, losses of the Kharkiv transport, as well as considering raising the minimum wage in the country

The Executive Committee of the Kharkiv city Council at a meeting on Wednesday approved new tariffs for travel in the metro, trolley buses and trams. This reports the press service of the Kharkiv city Council

The cost of the subway fare will be increased from 3 to 4 UAH, in ground electric transport (trams and trolleybuses) – 2,5 UAH to 3 UAH. The basis for this step was the rise in prices of energy, increasing the minimum wage. Passes purchased before the increase will be in effect the old rates.

As the Deputy mayor of Kharkiv Michael Fateev, since the last increase in fares on metro average wages increased 1.4 times, electricity has risen by 6.2 times. Since the approval of the existing tariffs for journey in ground gorelektrotransport the figures are 1.3 and 3.6 times, respectively.

In addition, according to M. Fateeva, prices for materials for repairs and maintenance of rolling stock has increased an average of 3 times.

By the end of 2016 the losses of the enterprise “Kharkiv metro” from providing services for the carriage of passengers amounted to 142.3 million UAH. Utility companies, providing services on transportation of passengers by electric transport received damages in the amount of 11.1 million.

The new tariff will be effective from the date of publication in the newspaper “Kharkov news” (official newspaper of Kharkiv city Council).
