On 28 February the Earth was a magnetic storm on the first level. Because of the extremely low solar activity in the Laboratory of x-ray astronomy of the Sun FIAN a month ago accurately predicted this event. In the current environment, the structure of the solar magnetic field is changing very slowly. The result is a very accurate prediction for the 1-2 months in advance, which is absent in the years of maximum activity under high dynamics of solar active processes.

If the current trend continues, we can already predict geomagnetic activity for the next month. According to this forecast, in March, is not expected any magnetic storm. Separate geomagnetic disturbances extremely low level can be recorded 8 and 12, the researchers note.

The reason for yesterday’s magnetic storm was the passage of Earth through the high-speed solar wind, which has increased pressure on the Earth’s magnetic field and increases its instability. The flow of the wind is of considerable width so that a separate perturbations of the magnetosphere can be observed for the next days, but their level, according to the forecast, should be lower. The probability that it would exceed the threshold from which the event is categorized as a storm is less than 10 %.

Magnetic storm led to the Northern lights. “Hunters Aurora” has captured this beautiful phenomenon and shared it in social networks.
