Hodges: while Ukraine will not solve the language issue with the Hungary, you can forget about NATO
ODESSA-KIEV. March 2. UNN. While Ukraine and Hungary will not resolve disputes regarding the language issue in the legislation, Hungary will block the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine. This was stated by the former commander of the US army in Europe (2014-2017), Lieutenant-General Ben Hodges during the first international conference “Odessa debate. The unification of Ukraine, black sea region and transatlantic partners” in Odessa, the correspondent of UNN.
“The question of language, of educational legislation between Hungary and Ukraine. I sure don’t understand all the details of this so I can sound like a stranger, but while it remains the question, you can forget about NATO. Hungary will block the Commission Ukraine-NATO forever,” said Hodges.
According to him, if Ukraine is serious in its efforts regarding NATO, it must decide what is more important to her.
Recall that after the adoption in 2017, Ukraine’s law on education, which identified the Ukrainian language in the educational process, Hungary has started to block the meeting of the Commission Ukraine-the NATO at level of Ministers.
NATO Nations urged Ukraine to continue reforms, including implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the law on education.
