Greece wants to buy two frigates from France

The Ministry of defence of Greece may acquire two multipurpose frigate type FREMM for its fleet and plans to begin negotiations with the French government in February. It is reported by the European true with reference to Defense News.

According to unofficial information, already have a preliminary oral agreement between the President of France Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras on the purchase of frigates.

The frigate FREMM was jointly developed by the French-Italian consortium Naval Group and Fincantieri for the naval forces of both countries.

Paris is also already sold one frigate to Morocco and one to Egypt. The cost of each frigate is estimated to be between 500 million to 600 million euros.

It is unclear whether Greece is ready to pay such money for warships. It is possible that instead they will acquire two corvettes Gowind class that France alone produces, and which cost 100-150 million euros less.
