The bones of mega-bear found in Mexico, in a mysterious underwater cave, where there are still traces of the inhabitants of the ice age, which ended 10,000 years ago. In addition to the bones of the largest bear, they found the remains of ancient people. Discovery has changed the view of scientists about the fauna of the Yucatan Peninsula in this period.

In Mexico, researchers were able to detect well-preserved remains of the largest bear that ever lived on Earth. Elements of the skull of the predator and the remains of an ancient people who lived in the era of the last ice age found in an underwater cave, reports Sciencealert.com.

Interestingly, the remains of the “short face” of predators were found a few years ago. But was mistakenly identified by scientists. They didn’t realize that the bear-architeria species Arctotherium wingei could live in these places, took the habitat of the species on the mainland, more than 2000 km from the place of occurrence.

“Their presence in the cave along with a diverse crowd of sloths suggests a more complex history of these organisms in Central America. We believe that landscape and environmental changes caused by the last Pleistocene glaciations, supported the exchange of species between continents,” the authors write.

Earlier in the same cave were found two human skeleton – the oldest in the southern hemisphere. This suggests that our ancestors caught giant sloths, short faced bears, significantly larger than modern species and a huge dangerous predators.

We will remind, in Mexico discovered a mysterious “Zone of silence” of the riddle which baffled the scientists.
