In the United States died the hero of the most famous pictures of kiss in the world – sailor George Mendoza. Although the official name of the photo: “the Day of victory over Japan in times square”, the most it is known as a short “a Kiss on times square”. This writes ABC news.
About the death of the father said the daughter of Mendoza. A world war II veteran died in the hospital in Middletown in the state of Rhode island. There he lived with his wife 70 years. George Mendoza has not lived two days before his 96th birthday.

The “Day of victory over Japan in times square” did Alfred Eisenstaedt, a Life magazine photographer. When Japan accepted the terms of surrender on 14 August 1945 in times square there were hundreds of people to celebrate the event. And Alfred just ran outside and started shooting.

Alfred kissed all the women that came his way, and one of those random kisses and hit the lens of the photographer. Later George Mendoza told me that the photo is his future wife, nurse Rita Port, she is smiling in the background.
The photo became iconic. Even gave rise to the flash mob, when a pair dressed as characters repeat the kiss.
Nurse with photo’s name is Greta Zimmer Friedman, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 92 years.
