Croatia refuses to give Slovenia a part of the Piran Bay

KIEV. 30 Dec. UNN. Croatia refused to comply with the arbitration decision in territorial dispute with Slovenia regarding Piran Bay. Croatian police accompanied the fishermen in the disputed waters, reports UNN with reference to Deutsche Welle.

The deadline for implementation of the decision of the International court of arbitration in the Hague on the Piran Bay, has expired on Friday. Arbitration came before the conclusion that 80% of the Piran Bay should belong to Slovenia, however, Croatia does not agree to comply with this decision.

On Saturday, December 30, Croatian police boats accompanied by boat Croatian fishermen, if necessary, to resist the Slovenian police, who can detain fishermen for a stay in the waters of Slovenia.

The Slovenian police merely observed the situation and did not intervene, although since December 30, the Slovenian police has the right to penalize fishermen who come into Slovenian waters.

The government of Slovenia has stated that it will implement the arbitration decision and for this made a number of amendments to its legislation. “The country that doesn’t know where its border may not be part of the Schengen area”, – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Slovenia Karl Erjavec a week earlier.

International court of arbitration in the Hague on June 29 issued its decision on the long territorial dispute between the former Yugoslav republics of Croatia and Slovenia.
