The opposition leader noted that Belarus has 26 years of rule by one person, created an “authoritarian regime, which does not observe the basic values of a democratic society: the alternation of power, freedom of speech and expression, basic human freedoms”. According to him, the authorities actively obstruct the holding of free and fair elections of the President, and also exert military pressure on anyone who wants fairness and transparency of the electoral process.

Tsepkalo appealed to the leaders of countries to support the holding of free and fair presidential elections and to draw public attention to the ongoing anti-people policies of the Belarusian regime. “Also on behalf of the Belarusian people is asked to assist in the organization of international observation of the elections and counting of votes, the transparency of this process for the citizens of Belarus, located on the territory of your free country. Our people places combines cultural and historical heritage and close family ties. We equally understand the idea of democracy and freedom,” the letter reads.

He also listed the goals of the opposition, including the transparency of the elections, the election of Svetlana Tikhanovski as President of the country, the release of all political prisoners and the holding of new elections with the participation of all the alternative candidates in a period of three to six months.

For the presidency of Belarus in the upcoming elections will compete, in addition to incumbent Alexander Lukashenko, the wife of blogger-opposition leader Sergei Tikhanovski Svetlana, former MP Anna Konopacka, the leader of the campaign “Tell the truth” Andrei Dmitriev, the head of the party “Belarusian social-democratic Hramada,” Sergei Chereshni. Ex-banker Victor Babariko, considered one of the main opponents of Lukashenko and former head of the high-tech Park Valery Tsepkalo were registered as presidential candidates. In the end, the team of Svetlana Tikhanovski, Tsepkalo and Babariko decided to unite in order to compete with Lukashenko.

In late July the wife Tsepkalo told Veronica that her husband left with the children in Russia, fearing arrest on trumped-up circumstances. “We didn’t know what kind of circumstances, but two days ago the Prosecutor’s office came to the school where my children attend, and asked teachers to write a statement. As I understand it, they have started the process to deprive me of parental rights,” said Tsepkalo. The ex-candidate said that now is in Moscow.
