Belarus has imposed indefinite ban on the sale of fireworks amid protests

The Belarusian authorities banned wholesale and retail trade of fireworks in the country amid protests. The corresponding decree published on the official website of legal acts was adopted by the Council of Ministers.

The reasons for the ban in the decree are not stated in the document only stated that the decision was made on the basis of the fifth paragraph of article 6 of the law “On state regulation of trade and public catering in the Republic of Belarus”. He says that the Council of Ministers has the right to restrict or prohibit the trade “if necessary ensure the safety of customers and protection of their interests.”

The Ministry of Antimonopoly regulation and trade of the country has released a message in which he asked the traders pyrotechnics “to take immediate steps for strict compliance with said regulations and to prevent wholesale and retail trade of pyrotechnic products”.

The decision was made against the use of fireworks and firecrackers participants of the protests continued for several days. During the protests in Minsk participants of the stock produced in the direction of the siloviki fireworks, security forces responded to their use of stun grenades and rubber bullets. In particular, during clashes in the Minsk district Serebryanka riot police tried to surround about 500 protesters, and those in response they launched the fireworks. The use of fireworks was observed on the second night of protests: the locals pelted the forces with Molotov cocktails or fireworks in the area of metro station “Pushkinskaya”.
