Chinese pop star Chris Lee became the first performer that had the opportunity to collaborate with artificial intelligence in their professional work. Intel took advantage of the occasion to advertise his creation – a system of creating visual effects for video, which uses principles of machine learning.

When filming the video for the song “Rainy Day, But We Are Together” artistic intent of the Director required the presence of flowing down the face of the singer drops of water. However, that did not relish the prospect of singing and wet, as well as the use of chromakey and special make-up with markers for motion capture. Instead, AI followed the movement of Chris Lee and real-time painting them the desired effects.

The quality of the resulting glare and view of the streams of water leave much to be desired, but it was so intended. The authors of the video did not want to do realistic rain (he’s ugly), instead, they needed a tool to create artistic effects. Various – in a situation when the AI is able to fulfill this part of the work, people can focus on working on individual scenes and plot of the clip.

Can AI create similar effects without reference to the person or objects in the frame, to do abstractly and independently? In Intel answer to this question is not allowed. But hint – a new tool for filmmakers, artists, designers and other creative brethren may soon be implemented in the commercial product.
