This is stated on the website of the Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan.

A criminal case of embezzlement was instituted after the inspection that the Prosecutor’s office conducted by the statement of the international law firm White and Case and statements of citizens. According to the Department, the daughter of the former President at an undervalue acquired the state shares of the enterprises of JSC “Kuvasaycement” and “Bekabadcement” and resold them abroad, and also protected the foreign entrepreneurs who have bought shares. Thus, it caused damage to the interests of the Republic in especially large size.

A criminal case of extortion in office of public Prosecutor was connected with the fact that, according to the Agency, Karimov “under the threat of violence” forced businessmen to transfer their assets-owned companies.

The first criminal case against Karimova was initiated in 2013. Then the public, almost nothing was known, except that the daughter of Islam Karimov, accused of corruption and held on charges of money laundering in Swiss banks.

In July 2017, the Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan reported that on August 21, Karimov was sentenced to five years in prison. She was found guilty of misappropriation of extortion cash, stocks, shares, embezzlement of state assets, evasion of taxes. At the same time it was reported that Karimova is being investigated against the second criminal case of concealment of foreign currency for 1 billion 942,8 million U.S. dollars and € 29.1 million by receiving “kickbacks” to the accounts of offshore companies, smuggling of cash, the import of goods at inflated prices, and so on.

In December 2017 Gulnara Karimov was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, in July 2018, a Tashkent court commuted her sentence to restriction of liberty for five years so she could carry “obligations for the return of proceeds of crime by way of cash and reimbursement of damage caused to the state”.

Karimova allowed to serve his sentence at the residence of her daughter Iman Karimova. However, for the systematic violation of commitments by the court in March this year, the court increased the punishment of the daughter of the former President, transferring it to the colony. Uzbek media reported that there Karimova allegedly committed suicide, but the Prosecutor’s office of Uzbekistan has denied this information, saying that the convicted is serving the penalty in the prescribed manner.
