A two-year trial on the terrorist attack near the Palace of sports in Kharkov completed 90% – Prosecutor

KIEV. 22 Feb. UNN. A judicial inquiry, which lasted almost two years, is nearing completion. This was reported to journalists by the Prosecutor of the Kharkiv oblast Yuri Danilchenko after the ceremony of honoring the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Kharkov in February 2015 near the Palace of sports.

“90% of the trial completed. Prosecutors are ready to debate. As soon as completed the last examination, I hope the court can go to the deliberation room for rendering a fair verdict to the accused” – said Yuri Danilchenko.

According to the Prosecutor, today, the case has gathered enough evidence to prove guilt of each defendant. However, the judicial process drags out the side of the accused.

“Today was about 60 trials and more than 20 disrupted by fault protection. Defendants do everything possible to delay the process,” – said the Prosecutor.

According to him, the accused 6 times changed lawyers. At almost every meeting, the defense said the request for disqualification of the Prosecutor, the judges.

Lawyers repeatedly disrupted the meeting, leaving the courtroom. There were cases when, having exhausted all procedural opportunities to delay the consideration on the merits, they called an ambulance, which recorded the normal physical condition of the accused.

Now the defendants refuse their testimony, trying to convince the court that the audio recordings of their voices. In this regard, it is necessary to appoint additional examination (phonoscope and psychological), which also takes time. However, this does not affect the lawful imposition of a fair sentence to these people, said Yuri Danilchenko.

In addition, according to the Prosecutor of Kharkiv region: during today’s regular meeting of the Frunze district court of Kharkov, at the request of the Prosecutor’s office extended for another two months the measure of restraint in form of detention for the three suspects in committing a terrorist act near the sports Palace.
