Dams and locks on the Danube are in poor condition

In the city of Vilkovo of Odessa region flooded about 30% of the streets.

This was announced by the head of kiliysky regional Council Pavel Boychenko on his page in Facebook.

According to him, over night the water level in Vilkovo has risen by 10 centimeters and reached 181 centimeters.

“Wind from the sea about 20 meters per second, high tide. Flooded about 30% of the city streets. Houses water yet. Will colitisa temporary walls. With food no problem. In case you need a prepared space to accommodate people,” wrote Boychenko.

As of 15:30, the wind in the city verse, the water level decreases.

We will remind, as of March 30, in Kiliya district of Odessa region under threat of flooding by the waters of the Danube river were more than 100 thousand local residents.

The head of the Odessa regional state administration appealed to the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of regional development, construction, housing and utilities Gennady Zubko with the request to assist in the allocation of funds for the repair of dams and locks on the Danube, which are in poor condition. The estimated amount for emergency repairs is 117 million.

The length of dikes along the Danube is more than 200 kilometers. They protect against partial flooding of the towns of Reni, Izmail and Kiliya districts of Odessa region, as well as farmland, infrastructure and livelihoods.

Currently 10 sites of dams and 5 locks, which are included in the protective front, are emergency.
