“Together with the occupied Crimea (16) and territories (3) this year the number of violations of freedom of speech amounted to 293 case”, – said in THEM.

The three categories-leaders in the number of violations included obstruction of lawful journalistic activities, restriction of access to public information and threats and intimidation of journalists.

Leader in the number of violations in 2017 was the category of “impeding the legitimate professional activities of journalists” – 88 cases.

At the same time, the amount of obstruction in 2017 fell slightly compared to previous years (in 2016 108 cases, in 2015 – 100 in 2014 and 150 in 2013 – 130).

Most journalists prevented, as in the past year, individuals (150 cases), local authorities (49 cases) and law enforcement(33 cases).

Second place went to the category of restriction of access to public information, 40 cases (in 2016 – 30, 2015 – 33 in 2014, 14 in 2013, 13 cases). This year, as in the previous two years, limiting the access of journalists to public information most often local authorities.

Third place was taken by threat – 37 cases (in 2016 – 43, 2015 – 36 threats in 2014, 98 in 2013 – 35). Threatened journalists mostly private individuals, local authorities and law enforcement.

In the number of violations in fourth place were the attack and beating of journalists – 29 cases.

The number of attacks on journalists has not changed in comparison with the previous year (for comparison, in 2016, the experts THEY had recorded 30 attacks in 2015 – 58, in 2014, 286).

Fifth place in the number of violations took cyberattacks – 15 (2016 – 11, in 2015 – 17).

In the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts THEY managed to capture only three cases (in 2016 12 cases of violations of freedom of speech). This is due to the limited access of Ukrainian journalists to the territory. In particular, this year in the occupied Donetsk disappeared blogger Stanislav Aseev.

In 2017 by leading regions violations (except occupied territories), and last year, became the Kiev region (79 cases), Volyn (23 cases), Mykolayiv (20 cases), Poltava (18 cases) and Odessa (15 cases).
