The building of Odessa city hall held a rally to demand the resignation of the mayor Gennady Trukhanov due to the death of children in a fire at a children’s camp “Victoria”. In clashes with protesters injured 20 policemen and 16 members of the National guard of Ukraine, reported on Wednesday, September 20, on the page of police of the Odessa region in Facebook.
In fact the conflict initiated a criminal case under part 4 of article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal code of Ukraine, the report said.
Adviser to the head of national police in the Odessa region Ruslan Forostyak on his page in Facebook reported that detainees in the Duma square in Odessa yet, despite the fact that a peaceful protest from time to time turns into bullying.
“Two people were taken to a bus law enforcement, where he held a preventive conversation about the fact that their actions can threaten safety of life and health of other protesters and militiamen”, – Forostyak reported.
The work of the city Council was forced to abort due to a serious fight outside the side entrance of the building, where we tried to break the protesters, the TV channel “112 Ukraine”. Police had to use near the city hall with tear gas, as some aggressive participants of the picket were pyrotechnics and flares.
Police officers document all actions, to give them further legal assessment.
In children’s camp “Victoria” is killed three children
The rally and scuffle related with a state of emergency in children’s camp “Victoria” on 15 September. Late evening, 23:30 local time, there was a fire in a burning building in that time were 42 children that were jumping out of Windows to escape the fire. Three children died, two were hospitalized.
On this fact openly criminal proceedings, 16 September the Director of the camp Petros Sarkisyan detained by police on charges of violation of fire safety rules.
As reported by “UKRINFORM”, the rally to city hall was attended by about 500 people, demanding to punish the officials responsible for the deaths of three children in a fire in a camp “Victoria”, including representatives of the “Ukrainian people’s party”, “Freedom”, “National corpus”. People were holding posters with slogans “Trukhanov – in jail”, “Is not an accident, this system” and demanded the resignation of the mayor and all the deputies of the city Council.
“The city Council building is cordoned off and guarded by the forces of national police and commandos. The security forces about the same as the protesters – said in the message. A few minutes before ten o’clock there was a fight. commandos tried to take the ring of one of the activists and protesters were not allowed to do”.
According to local publication “Pushkinskaya”, the building came 35 buses of National guard of Ukraine, the building was surrounded by police officers, also came two fire trucks.
At today’s session of the city Council at the Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov has promised to answer to the public for the incident, but asked not to involve politics here. He said that a special working group that will review the municipal building in compliance with safety regulations, reports the local Agency “Odessa-Media”.
“For some deputies of various ranks, for my opponents came “finest hour”. Since the night of the tragedy, I heard a lot of opinions that were constantly changing, at the same time – from the same people. You need to collect all the data, stamp and signature, and the surviving buildings to inspect. Need to have exposure to to understand. I will answer directly and honestly to the public why the failure occurred, but we mustn’t mix politics,” said the mayor.
By order of the mayor from office, except the Director, suspended the head of regional administration Vladimir Sushkov, Deputy Director of the camp, responsible for fire safety. The Director of the local Department of education Elena buynevich resigned.
