The high Council of justice has satisfied the petition of the Prosecutor General about the detention of a judge of the Suvorovsky district court of Odessa Konstantin Bobovsky. The Prosecutor General’s office suspects him of extortion, and the desire of obtaining illegal benefit by the participants of the case, which he leads, reports Hromadske.

Prosecutors requested on the measure of restraint in form of detention as the investigation believes that he can exert pressure on witnesses and to use connections in law enforcement to avoid justice. In addition, the Prosecutor’s office suspects that the judge may distort or destroy evidence and put pressure on judges, which redistributed the case in which the Bobovsky is suspected of misconduct. There’s also operational data that the judge can go abroad and escape from the investigating authorities.

This is the first case when the High Council of justice considered the question of granting consent to the conclusion of the judge into custody, because prior to the reform of justice the question of the immunity of judges was within the competence of the Verkhovna Rada.

We will remind, on January 3, President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law “On High Council of justice”.

The law provides that the High Council of justice decides on the dismissal of judges from office and consents to the detention or arrest of a judge.
